NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Linked to Matt Dumba

In Tuesday's (Jan. 10) episode of TSN Insider Trading, it was reported that the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers are both expressing interest in Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba.

Although the Wild are competing for a playoff spot at this point of the season, there is plenty of buzz surrounding the possibility of a Dumba trade. It makes sense, as the Wild are not going to be able to re-sign him due to the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyout penalties. As a result, flipping Dumba for some assets seems like the right call for Minnesota.

The Senators are unlikely to make the playoffs this year, so it is a little surprising to hear that they are making a push for a pending UFA like Dumba. An extension would likely need to be agreed upon for this hypothetical move to make sense for them. As for the Oilers, Dumba could be a fantastic addition to their top four for the playoffs if acquired. Alas, let's see if either of these clubs ends up landing him from here.
