NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings Shopping Defenseman

After a strong start to the season, the Detroit Red Wings fell back down to Earth, and it does not seem likely that they will be pushing for a playoff spot this year. As a result, they are likely to be sellers once again, and one player who we should see on the move because of this is Olli Maatta.

Maatta inked a one-year deal with Detroit this past offseason, so it was already known that he could be a rental candidate for this year. Now, with Detroit's playoff chances looking rather slim, it appears at this, in fact, will be coming to fruition.

Maatta may not be a star, but he should still get a good amount of attention on the trade market, as he has a very solid defensive defenseman. He has shown the season then he can handle playing top-four minutes, but if he gets acquired by a legitimate playoff team, he would probably work best on the bottom pairing.

Expect to see several teams pursue him at the deadline, as he carries an affordable hit and has a good amount of experience on his résumé.
