NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers Open to Trading All-Star

The 2022-23 season has been a rather eventful one for Philadelphia Flyers forward Kevin Hayes. Although he is currently one of the team's leading scorers, he also was memorably a healthy scratch even though he has been playing some of the best hockey of his career. With that, he has been named as the Flyers’ All-Star Selection due to his strong play. Yet, even with the year he has had, the Flyers are reportedly open to moving him, according to Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period.

Ultimately, it makes sense that the Flyers are open to the prospect of trading Hayes. Besides not being head coach John Tortorella’s favorite player, the Flyers are currently rebuilding, and it would make sense for them to take advantage of Hayes’ heightened trade value. Furthermore, he has never produced at a rate like this over his career, so it’s hard to say if he can maintain it from here. Thus, it would be wise for the Flyers the jump the gun on the move now, as they could get the best return possible.

The primary issue with Hayes is that he has a very expensive cap hit for multiple seasons. As a result, there could be teams out there a bit concerned about bringing them in, but we will have to wait and see if Philly receives a strong enough offer for them to move Hayes from here. The Flyers would likely need to retain salary in any move.
