NHL Rumors: Red Wings Linked to Sharks Star Forward

The Detroit Red Wings are not expected to make the postseason at this point of the campaign, so many believe that they will be sellers at the trade deadline. However, even with this being the case, it also appears that they are considering making potential additions to their current roster. According to The Fourth Period, they are one of the teams currently linked to Timo Meier.

The Sharks are expected to move Meier at the trade deadline, as GM Mike Grier is ready to embark on a legitimate rebuild. Thus, with Meier being their most valuable trade asset, it makes sense that they are open to the prospect of moving him. However, due to his RFA status, it also is understandable that the Red Wings are open to acquiring him. After all, they would have team control over him and could sign him to a long-term extension during the summer.

Meier is exactly the kind of star that the Red Wings could use, and they have the assets to swing a blockbuster with the Sharks. However, several teams are in on the sweepstakes, so the Red Wings will need to act quickly if they want to successfully acquire him. Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see if a move occurs from here.
