3 San Jose Sharks Not Expected Back Next Season

The San Jose Sharks are a team to watch this summer as they will be in the running for winning the Connor Bedard sweepstakes. General manager Mike Grier can expedite his rebuild by adding a generational talent to build around. Besides a potential Bedard selection, the Sharks are going to make major changes once again this offseason. Here's three players Sharks fans shouldn't expect back in 2023-24:

Erik Karlsson

Sounds like both the Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators advanced in trade talks ahead of the deadline and circle the Oilers as a team to watch this summer when it comes to an Erik Karlsson trade. The veteran defenseman is open to moving as he wants to win, it's just his contract and the $11.5 million he's due through the 2026-27 season that's the biggest hurdle. Look for trade talks to pick up once again at the NHL Entry Draft.

James Reimer

Don't expect to see James Reimer re-sign with the Sharks. The veteran goaltender is a pending free agent and will hit the open market come July 1st. Reimer will have some suitors as contending teams will want to add a veteran presence in their crease and somewhat of a security blanket to their starters. Regardless of where, don't expect to see Reimer in teal and black next season.

Andreas Johnsson

One of the pieces the Sharks landed for Timo Meier, Andreas Johnsson has appeared in 11 games for the Sharks since the trade and has yet to score and has recorded three assists. The speedy winger has fallen off these past couple of seasons and it doesn't look like he'll be doing enough to land a contract extension in San Jose.
