San Jose Sharks Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots for Erik Karlsson

The San Jose Sharks were actively shopping Erik Karlsson at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, but his massive contract made a move too challenging to complete. Yet, with teams having more money available during the summer, that is expected to change. Thus, let’s discuss three possible landing spots for him.

Edmonton Oilers: The Edmonton Oilers were heavily linked to Karlsson before the deadline passed. They are likely to pursue him again this summer because of this. When noting that they moved Tyson Barrie to the Nashville Predators, they also could use another right-shot offensive defenseman like Karlsson.

Ottawa Senators: Could a reunion between Karlsson and the Ottawa Senators make sense? It certainly seems possible. The Senators are looking to become a playoff team, but a major need they have is adding a high-impact right-shot defenseman. Therefore, it could be the perfect time for them to bring back their former captain.

Detroit Red Wings: The Detroit Red Wings are another team that is aiming to become competitive again. After trading Filip Hronek, the Red Wings have a notable hole on the right side of their defense, so Karlsson could certainly make sense for them on paper. He would improve their defensive group immensely and also give them another veteran to help mentor their younger players.
