Colorado Avalanche Rumors: Defenseman Expected to be Shopped

The Colorado Avalanche could make a notable change to their roster, as they are expected to listen to offers for Samuel Girard this offseason.

The Avalanche have a surplus of left-shot defensemen, as Devon Toews and Bowen Byram fill out their top two pairings. As a result, they could use a top-four defenseman like Girard to help improve their roster elsewhere. When looking at a specific need for the Avalanche, it is apparent that they could use a boost at center, and Girard could be the piece they use to help with that.

Girard carries a $5 million cap hit until the completion of the 2026-27 season, so he will be far more than just a rental for a new team if acquired. In 76 games this season, the 24-year-old defenseman had six goals to go along with 37 assists.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see if the Avalanche end up moving Girard from here.
