3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Patrick Kane

New York Rangers forward Patrick Kane admitted in his exit interview after the team's playoff exit that he's been nagged by a lower-body injury which could require surgery this summer. If surgery ends up happening, look for Kane to start the 2023-24 season a month or two into the season. The 35-year-old has the passion to play still and won't be retiring, surgery or not. Here's a few potential destinations for one of the all-time greats:

New York Rangers

Yes, there's a small chance Kane re-signs with the blue shirts. GM Chris Drury only has $12.3 million to work with at the moment, so Kane is going to need to take a huge discount to be able to give Drury some resources to improve the hockey club. From all accounts he enjoyed his short stint with the Rangers so a reunion is certainly a possibility at this point.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes may win the 2023 Stanley Cup. They also have a projected $27 million to work with in salary cap space this summer and will be looking to add some offense on their wings. Kane fits the bill perfectly and with his playoff experience, could be a nice piece to add for Carolina. Certainly a team to watch should Kane hit the open market in July.

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins are an interesting bunch at this point because they currently have no management personnel and they are expected to be one of the busiest teams this offseason. They have roughly $20 million to work with this summer and will have a need for a top-six left winger. Playing alongside Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin could entice Kane to sign in Pittsburgh and try and go on another run for the Stanley Cup.
