Boston Bruins Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

The Boston Bruins are in for a busy offseason. They have notable pending UFAs like Tyler Bertuzzi and Dmitry Orlov who they want to keep around, but they also have very little cap space to work with. As a result, there are rumblings that Derek Forbort could be traded this offseason.

Forbort has a $3 million cap hit, and getting that money off the books would be very beneficial for Boston. Although he worked well on their bottom pairing and penalty kill, the Bruins need cap space, and moving him might be the best course of action at this point. This is especially so if the freed up cap space helps them bring back a player like Orlov or Bertuzzi.

Forbort should get attention if he is officially placed on the trading block. He had a good season with Boston in 2022-23, as he had five goals, 12 points, and a plus-12 rating in 54 games. We will need to wait and see what the Bruins decide to do with him from here. Expect teams like the Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, and Colorado Avalanche to be in the mix for his services.
