St. Louis Blues Rumors: Islanders Defenseman On Team's Radar

The St. Louis Blues are ready to make some changes this offseason, as their 2022-23 campaign was simply disappointing. One area that they are looking to improve is the right side of their defensive group, and they are expected to target New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield if he hits the free-agent market this summer because of it.

Mayfield just completed his five-year, $7.25 million contract with the Islanders. Overall, he proved to be a solid bottom-pairing defenseman for them, but now that he has the opportunity to test free agency, there is a good chance that he will take advantage of it.

This year's free agency class is not particularly strong, so Mayfield will garner a lot of attention from teams if he does not re-sign with the Islanders. As a result, the Blues will have a lot of competition to successfully bring in the hometown kid.

In 82 games this season, the 30-year-old set new career highs with six goals, 18 assists, and 24 points. With that, he had 107 hits and 83 penalty minutes.
