NHLTR Mock Trade: Edmonton Oilers Deal Jack Campbell to the Ottawa Senators

Welcome to NHLTR mock trade series where we will showcase a potential 2023 offseason trade. From minor moves to major transactions, everything will be covered as we try to predict how the chips may fall this summer across the NHL.

For today's trade we head west to visit the Edmonton Oilers and zone in on their goaltending situation. Stuart Skinner ended up becoming the starter netminder for the Oilers and the potential of Jack Campbell being moved this offseason just went way up compared to day one of last season. If 'Soup' is moved this summer, there's potential another Canadian team could be interested.

Mock Trade: Oilers send Jack Campbell to the Senators for Anton Forsberg and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

Oilers Perspective: Edmonton has holes up front they need to fill and Campbell's salary isn't helping their cause. The team would save over $2 million these next two summers and get themselves out of another $10 million the following two seasons. Forsberg is a bit of a gamble as Skinner's backup, however the rookie netminder in Edmonton proved he's capable of a bigger work load which could be coming in 2023-24.

Senators Perspective: The Senators are letting Cam Talbot walk and there's no doubt they are trying to get into the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season. Ottawa showed they are improving down the stretch last season and with some steady goaltending, they could propel up the standings in the east. Campbell lost his game in Edmonton and a fresh start in Ottawa could be exactly what the doctor ordered. Either that, or some more Red Lobster.  Campbell is very familiar with head coach DJ Smith and this could truly be a match made in goalie heaven.
