Capitals Call Up Goalie, Send Down Another

The Washington Capitals are switching things up between the pipes. Hunter Shepard has been called up to the NHL squad, while Clay Stevenson is heading back to the Hershey Bears.

The Capitals are currently without their backup goalie Charlie Lindgren and recently called up Stevenson because of it. However, they are now going to run with Shepard on their NHL roster due to this latest move.

Shepard is coming off a strong 2022-23 season with the Bears. In 33 regular-season games, he had a 20-8-5 record, a .916 SV%, and a 2.18 GAA. He then followed that up with a .914 SV% in 20 playoff games for the Bears' Calder run.

Stevenson, on the other hand, is a young goalie who spent most of the last season in the ECHL. He will now look to play well with the Bears this season, as it could open the door to another call-up to the Caps' roster later down the road.
