Hockey Insider Shuts Down Ottawa Senators Trade Rumor

The Ottawa Senators are a mess and have not met expectations this season. After a dismal loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night, the Sens sit with a 8-10-0 record, good for second worst in the entire NHL.

While there's been some trade speculation brewing from Canada's capital city, it does sound like there are some untouchables on the Senators. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Senators are not interested in moving out defenseman Thomas Chabot.

Some people felt with Jakob Chychrun and Jake Sanderson able to carry the load on the left side of their blue line that the Sens would start entertaining offers on Chabot, but that hasn't been the case at all. Chabot's 26, in the prime of his career, signed through the 2027-28 season at $8 million annually. His trade protection doesn't kick in until next season when he can protect himself from 10 teams of his choice.

Chabot has recorded four points this season in eight games and is coming off a 41-point season in 68 games in 2022-23. If the Senators start moving some people out they'll likely start with their head coach and players such as Erik Brannstrom, Dominik Kubalik, and Vladimir Tarasenko.
