Islanders: 3 Top Trade Candidates Heading Into 2024

Christmas is over, and now the new year is less than one week away. Thus, over these next few days, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will discuss the three top trade candidates from each team heading into 2024.

In this latest installment of the series, the New York Islanders will be discussed. The Islanders have had a solid start to the season, and they could be pretty big buyers in 2024 because of it. As a result, let's go over a few players who they could end up moving by the trade deadline from here.

Oliver Wahlstrom: Oliver Wahlstrom is a prime trade candidate heading into the new year. The former top prospect has had trouble becoming the top-six forward that the Islanders expected him to be, and a change of scenery may do him some good. There also should be a market for him, as he still has good upside and could thrive in an offense-first system.

William Dufour: If the Islanders want to make a big splash at the deadline, they could be open to moving William Dufour. The 21-year-old has made good progress with his development and could compete for an NHL job on a struggling or rebuilding team.

Cal Clutterbuck: If the Islanders fall in the standings as the season continues, Cal Clutterbuck could be on the move. He was brought up a trade candidate earlier this season when the Islanders were struggling, and he is a pending UFA. His physicality and experience would make him garner a lot of attention, but the Islanders would need to fall off to truly consider shopping him later this campaign.
