Penguins: 3 Top Trade Candidates Heading Into 2024

Christmas is over, and now the new year is less than one week away. Thus, over these next few days, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will discuss the three top trade candidates from each team heading into 2024.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the Pittsburgh Penguins. They are having a season of mixed results and if they do not jump up in the standings, they have some decisions to make at the deadline. Due to this, let's go over their top three trade candidates heading into 2024 from here.

Jake Guentzel: Jake Guentzel has become of the top trade candidates in the NHL in recent weeks. Extension talks between the star winger and the Pens have not gone too well at this time. With that, if the Penguins are not in a definite playoff spot by the deadline, they may have no choice but to move him if he is not signed to an extension.

Alex Nedeljkovic: Teams looking for help in the crease could target Alex Nedeljkovic at the deadline. After a tough tenure with the Detroit Red Wings, he has picked up his game with the Pens and would be a nice backup for a playoff team to add because of it.

Chad Ruhwedel: Chad Ruhwedel is another pending unrestricted free agent who could be moved at the deadline if the Penguins are out of the playoff race by the deadline. He has an adorable cap hit, and playoff teams can never have enough defensive depth. Because of this, he is a player to keep an eye on during the upcoming year.
