Capitals Rumors: Defenseman Expected to Generate Trade Interest

The Washington Capitals are one of the many teams that are aiming to cement themselves as a legitimate playoff team in the standings. However, if they start to fall off over these next few weeks, they will very likely be sellers, and they have some players who will generate trade interest in that scenario. One of them is veteran defenseman Joel Edmundson.

Edmundson is currently in the final season of his contract, so he would be a notable rental candidate if the Capitals opt to sell. This is because he has plenty of experience in the playoffs and is a solid shutdown defenseman who can play second-pairing minutes. Due to this, there should be several teams keeping an eye on him as we get closer to March 8.

In 28 games this season with the Capitals, Edmundson has one goal to go along with two assists. From an offensive standpoint, he has struggled, but he is more known for his steady defensive play and physicality, regardless.

Teams looking to add a bit more size and experience to the left side of their defensive group are likely to at least call the Caps about his availability as we get closer to the deadline. We will now need to wait and see if the Capitals decide to move him from here.
