Devils Rumors: 6 Goalies Named Potential Trade Targets

It is not a secret that the New Jersey Devils will be looking to add a starting goalie to their roster before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passes. Vitek Vanecek and Akira Schmid have struggled this season, while Nico Daws does not have the experience to be a starting goaltender for a team with the expectation of being contenders.

The NHL trade market for goaltenders has some pretty notable names, and the Devils are now being connected to them. According to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, six goalie trade targets whom the Devils could look at include Jake Allen (Montreal Canadiens), Petr Mrazek (Chicago Blackhawks), Marc-Andre Fleury (Minnesota Wild), John Gibson (Anaheim Ducks), Juuse Saros (Nashville Predators), and Jacob Markstrom (Calgary Flames).

Adding Allen, Mrazek, or Fleury would give the Devils a more experienced option in the net. None of these three would likely run away with the starting job, but they would give New Jersey a bit more stability between the pipes. However, adding one of Gibson, Saros, and Markstrom would give them a definite starter for the final portion of the season. They would, however, need to give up a lot to add one of these three, as Baugh notes.

The Devils are struggling to climb in the NHL standings, and they would be wise to add another goalie because of it. We will need to wait and see if they do in fact do that before the season is over from here.
