Canucks Rumors: Canadiens Defenseman On Team's Radar

The Vancouver Canucks recently made a major move, acquiring center Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames. Bringing in a top-six forward was a major objective for the Canucks, and now they have officially crossed it off of the list. However, they are likely not done yet.

One area that the Canucks are looking to improve is the right side of their defensive group. Because of this, they have been connected to a few of them, but now a new player is being connected to him - Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard.

The Canadiens are expected to listen to offers for Savard as we get closer to the trade deadline, and that is entirely understandable. They are in the middle of a rebuild, and Savard is a veteran defenseman who possesses a decent amount of trade value. This is even more the case if the Canadiens retain a portion of his salary. As a result, they would be wise to test his market this month.

Savard would provide the Canucks with a solid option for their bottom pairing, but he also could be jumped up in their lineup if injuries arise. With that, he would be a marvelous addition to their penalty kill because of his steady defensive play and excellent shot-blocking ability.

Several teams are expected to pursue Savard as we get closer to the deadline, and the Canucks are likely to be one of them. We will need to wait and see if they end up landing Savard before the deadline passes from here.
