Capitals Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, the Washington Capitals will be discussed.

Max Pacioretty: Max Pacioretty was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the deadline, but the veteran forward decided not to waive his no-movement clause and preferred to stay in DC. Because of this, the Caps could try to keep him around, as he showed loyalty to the team, even with their placement in the standings.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel: The Capitals did not trade Nicolas Aube-Kubel at the deadline, even with his pending UFA status. When noting that he has been a good fit on their roster, they could look to keep him around him beyond this season. He is unlikely to command too much money, either.

Connor McMichael: Connor McMichael is due for his next contract after this season. He has been having a nice breakout season with the Capitals this season, so it would not be all that shocking if he landed a contract extension before the season is over.
