Red Wings Rumors: David Perron Becoming Extension Candidate

The Detroit Red Wings took a step forward during the 2023-24 season. They just missed out on the playoffs, but there was plenty to be happy about with their season. As a result, there are expectations that they will end their playoff drought in 2024-25 because of it.

The Red Wings have some big decisions to make during this offseason, as they have an array of notable pending UFAs. One of them is veteran forward David Perron. He has made it clear that he wants to stay with the Red Wings, and it would be wise for the Red Wings to keep him around.

Perron has emerged as a key forward in the Red Wings lineup. He not only provides them with plenty of offense, but he is also impactful because of his leadership and physicality. Because of this, he is clearly a player who they should prioritize this offseason. This is especially so if he is open to the prospect of signing at a cheaper cap value to stick around.

Perron, 35, appeared in 76 games during this season with the Red Wings, where he had 17 goals to go along with 47 points and 55 penalty minutes.
