Bruins Rumors: 3 Teams That Make The Most Sense For A Jeremy Swayman Trade
It was a rough 2024-25 season for Jeremy Swayman. The year began back in the fall as a restricted free agent, with a chaotic negotiation with the Boston Bruins on a new contract. It eventually got done, just as the regular season was set to begin, but the turmoil seemed to carry over into the new campaign for the new official starting goaltender in Boston. Could we be looking at a Jeremy Swayman trade this offseason?
Recently, insider Elliotte Friedman suggested that the Bruins will definitely be fielding some calls from other teams on Swayman's availability.
Will the Bruins trade Jeremy Swayman this summer?
Let's have a look now at three teams that make the most sense for a Swayman trade.
Edmonton Oilers
Perhaps the worst move NOT made this season in the NHL was the Oilers going out and getting themselves a legit No. 1 goalie. Stuart Skinner was so shaky in the first two games of their first-round series with the LA Kings that he was pulled and replaced by backup Calvin Pickard, who has been tending goal ever since, and started his third straight in Game 5 Tuesday night.
Pundits and prognosticators league-wide wondered about the Oilers' netminding, as a team with Stanley Cup goals. Now, if they get booted early from the playoffs this season, that will undoubtedly be their top priority to fix this summer.
Carolina Hurricanes
Another team that declined to do anything about their goaltending situation this season despite calls to the contrary, the Canes are now in a situation in their first-round series where the fragile Frederik Andersen has gone down once again to injury after a collision in Game 4, and was replaced by Pyotr Kochetkov for Game 5 Tuesday night.
The Hurricanes are a deep, talented team, but if they don't reach the promised land again this spring, it could very well be because of issues in the crease, and they will be hard-pressed not to take a big swing at a new starting goalie for next season. Besides, Andersen will be a free agent after the season.
Philadelphia Flyers
Goaltending was a sore spot all year for the Flyers, finishing dead last in the NHL in save percentage at .879, and 28th in the league with a 3.45 goals against average. With the team looking to do some big things this summer to expedite the rebuild, they'd love to hand over their new head coach—whomever that could be—a nice, shiny new No. 1 man between the pipes. A trade for Swayman would be a great way to do it.
The Swayman rumors aren't the only thing clouding the Bruins' situation in goal, as Joonas Korpisalo has been sending up smoke signals, both by himself and through his agent, that he wants more playing time, or he'll be asking out.
