6 Flames That Must Provide Team With More Offense

Yegor Sharangovich, Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames finished 27th in the NHL in goals scored with 225, but thanks to Dustin Wolf and the team defense, Calgary finished with 96 points and ninth place in the Western Conference. But that wasn't good enough to get into the playoffs and the Flames can't expect Wolf to be excellent at all times and in every season. They need to find more scoring.

There are five players in particular that are in the position to contribute more offensively to the Flames. They are as follows: Matt Coronato, Connor Zary, Morgan Frost, Yegor Sharangovish, and Joel Farabee. The sixth Flame that needs to contribute is the likely player the team picks up in the offseason.

Coronato and Zary are the youngest and therefore have the highest ceiling. They should both be playing in the top-6, which means they should contribute offensively based on that. Coronato was just a handful of games over what would have qualified him for being a rookie this season, but he did well, scoring 24 goals and 47 points, in his first full season. Those numbers need to jump to at least 25-30 goals and 55-60+ points. As for Zary, he was on pace for 19 goals and 41 points over a full season, but only played 54 games. If he surpasses those projected numbers, that is a good step.

Part of this season by Frost and Farabee was played in Philadelphia, and they had good showings once they got to Calgary. Frost will get a raise this offseason, but both are going to be paid like they should be contributing more and are at the age where they need to start showing it. Farabee definitely has the potential, scoring 20 goals and 38 points in 55 games in 2020-21 and 22 goals and 50 points in 2023-24. He has a lot of experience for a young player and maybe if he slides up to the second line, he'll produce more.

Sharangovish looked like he was going to be an impactful player for the Flames when he broke out for 31 goals and 58 points last season, his first with Calgary. But then he dropped down to 17 goals and 32 points in 73 games and was a third line quality player. He showed his potential and even if he lands somewhere in between the last two seasons, that's better than not contributing enough offensively.
