Calgary Flames Sign Matt Coronato To Massive Contract Extension

Matt Coronato, Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have made a massive move, as they have signed forward Matt Coronato to a seven-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million.

Coronato was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason, but the Flames have now locked him up long-term with this major signing. Getting him inked to his new deal was one of the Flames' top objectives of the offseason, and now that has officially come to fruition.

Coronato had a breakout year for the Flames in 2024-25 and blossomed into one of their top forwards in the process. In 77 games played, he set new career highs with 24 goals, 23 assists, 47 points, 36 hits, and a plus-6 rating. Overall, he had an excellent season, and he should only continue to get better as he gains more experience at the NHL level from here.

Coronato Will Be Part Of Flames' Long-Term Core

With this signing, Coronato will officially be a part of the Flames' long-term core. The Flames now have the 22-year-old forward locked up for his prime years, and this deal could age wonderfully if he continues to get better from here.

Coronato was selected by the Flames with the 13th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The Greenlawn, New York native has the tools to be a top-six forward for a long time, and it will be fascinating to see how he performs with the Flames after landing this huge new contract extension from here.
