Ducks Trade Rumors: Trevor Zegras on his way out of Anaheim this offseason
The Anaheim Ducks are expecting to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season, and even though they have a new coach behind the bench, look for GM Pat Verbeek to shake up his roster, especially up front.
Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is a prime trade candidates out of Anaheim this summer. The once promising top prospect has had the early portion of his career fizzle out. Loaded with offensive talent, Zegras hasn't lived up to expectations, and his attention to details on the defensive end is a coach's nightmare.
Zegras scored just 12 goals and 32 points in 57 games last season. He's owed $5.75 million AAV in 2025-26, and is the final season of his deal before becoming a restricted free agent. Zegras doesn't have any trade protection on his contract and could be moved at will.
Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin recently listed Zegras as a prime 'change of scenery' trade candidate to keep an eye on this summer:
It feels like this deal should’ve happened a while ago. Zegras hasn’t lived up to the superstar pedigree he showed as a junior-aged player, and his commitment to defense and winning hockey has been called into question by old-school thinkers who don’t like his flashiness. But his sublime puckhandling talent remains undeniable, he’s still just 24, and he could explode if placed in the right situation. The Ducks would be selling low if they traded him this offseason, but the fact he’s owed a reasonable $5.75 million for just one more season before restricted free agency is a selling point that offsets his depressed recent production.
Verbeek made it clear it's playoffs or bust next season for the Ducks. Moving on from Zegras and finding some more well-rounded forwards could be a good start to improve the roster this summer.
