NHL Rumors: Bruins Almost Certain To Re-Sign Key Free Agent
After letting one pretty important pending free agent go this season when they traded Brad Marchand at the deadline, the Boston Bruins have no intention of losing up-and-coming forward Morgan Geekie, who is a restricted free agent after a breakout season.
As noted by Steve Conroy in the Boston Herald, newly extended Bruins GM Don Sweeney insists he's not feeling threatened about any offer sheet stealing Geekie away.
We’ve been in constant communication with Morgan’s camp since the time the season ended. I have no issues with the timeline of our discussions. We’d like to get it done. We know that it’s going to be somewhere between a one- and an eight-year deal. How’s that?
While Sweeney wasn't being too specific about the term of a Geekie extension, AFP Analytics projects the 26-year-old to land a four-year, $6.59 million AAV contract. Any way you slice it, he's in for a huge raise from the $2 million he earned in 2024-25.
RFA Morgan Geekie in line for huge raise after doubling goal total
For the second consecutive year, Geekie nearly doubled his goal output. Two seasons ago, while still with the Seattle Kraken, he registered nine goals and 28 points in 69 games. In 2023-24, he lit the lamp 17 times, and this season, just about doubled it again, finding the net 33 times, to go with 57 points in 77 games. He also had a career-high 16:55 average time on ice, as he landed on the top line alongside David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha after Joe Sacco took over as interim head coach. That obviously served him well, with career highs across the board.
