3 Canucks Moves To Replace UFA Brock Boeser

JJ Peterka, Buffalo Sabres
It looks like Brock Boeser will head to the open market on July 1 as a contract still hasn't gotten done between him and the Vancouver Canucks. While there is still time, all signs point towards the Canucks losing him for nothing. If that's the case and they don't want to be stuck in the middle of the pack, the team will have to adapt and bring in something special.

JJ Peterka, Buffalo Sabres

JJ Peterka's name is all over the trade boards and the Buffalo Sabres might be making some big offseason changes. He is a RFA and set for a big increase after another impressive season. Peterka could be slotted right in on the top line for Vancouver and compete as the top scorer on the team if he continues along his trajectory. He is younger and would provide more scoring than Boeser did this season at least. The Canucks should be all over a potential trade for Peterka and not be stingy on what they send back if it may not help them for a few years.

Marco Rossi, Minnesota Wild

It doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but Marco Rossi appears to be on the trade block. The Minnesota Wild have plenty of cap space and the market isn't very good for replacing what they would lose in him. But if that's the road the Wild are going to take with Rossi, the Canucks would be more than happy to invest in a second line center. That is probably his ideal spot in a lineup, especially if he plays like he did this season scoring over 60 points. Filip Chytil can either play on the wing or as the third line center and the Canucks would be strong up the middle.

Nikolaj Ehlers, Winnipeg Jets

Nikolaj Ehlers is looking for a top line role. He may not want to stay in Canada, but if he's willing to hear what the Canucks may offer in free agency, it would be what he's looking for. There's room on the top line and top power play for Ehlers and the Canucks are at least in the mix for a playoff spot even though the team has gone through some changes over the past year. This may be the least likely of the three, but there's not too many options for Vancouver to rebound from what a big loss in Boeser would cause.
