NHL Rumors: 3 Avalanche Players Who Could Sign Extensions Next
The Colorado Avalanche made a major move on June 4, signing forward Brock Nelson to a three-year, $22.5 million contract extension. With this, Nelson won't be hitting the free-agent market on July 1.
The Avalanche still have other pending unrestricted free agents, so let's discuss three players they could look to sign to contract extensions next.
Jonathan Drouin
Drouin is a pending UFA who the Avalanche could look to keep around at an affordable price. While the 30-year-old dealt with injury trouble this year, he was still impactful when healthy. In 43 games, the 30-year-old posted 11 goals and 37 points. On an affordable short-term deal, Colorado could be open to bringing him back.
Ryan Lindgren
The Avalanche could look to extend Lindgren at the right price. He did well with the Avalanche after being traded there by the New York Rangers, so it would be understandable if they tried to keep him around. Contenders love steady, hard-hitting defensive defenseman, and Lindgren is just that when playing at his best.
Joel Kiviranta
Kiviranta is another forward who the Avalanche could very well look to keep around. The 29-year-old forward had the best offensive season of his career thus far in 2024-25, posting new career highs with 16 goals, seven assists, and 23 points. With numbers like these, he has been a solid depth player for the Avalanche, so don't be surprised if they work hard to keep him in Colorado.
