3 Trade Destinations For Oilers' Arvidsson

Viktor Arvidsson, Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are working on a way to trade Viktor Arvidsson, and although he has a no-trade clause, he appears to want out and in a different situation. Arvidsson didn't play every game in the playoffs and he seems to want to have an everyday role in a lineup. He never really fit in the Oilers' lineup, but there are definitely other teams that would have use for him ahead of the final year of his contract.

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils' GM said there were going to be lots of changes, and thus far he didn't lie. Tomas Tatar isn't returning as he signed overseas, Erik Haula was traded to the Nashville Predators, and Cody Glass won't be qualified and will hit free agency as a UFA. With all of these forwards on the way out, those spots have to be filled. Arvidsson would be a great player to add to the mix as even though he wasn't a fit in Edmonton, he still scored 15 goals and 27 points in 67 games as well as two goals and seven points in 15 playoff games. I can see Arvidsson on the second line of New Jersey in place of Ondrej Palat or easily on the third line.

Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild have close to $16 million to spend this offseason and there is a spot on their third line that is screaming for an upgrade. Yakov Trenin probably shouldn't be playing third line minutes as he could produce just as much offense as he did from a fourth line role. Arvisson would be much more useful in that spot and he is a certain upgrade to that lineup. Minnesota is still gearing up for a big addition, but that's no guarantee. A trade with the Oilers for Arvidsson is more of a guarantee.

New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have $21 million in projected cap space and a few key players to sign. That won't eat up nearly all of their cap space though. There is still room to upgrade and the team really does need more offense. Ever since the Islanders turned into a defense-first team, even highly skilled players have trouble finishing at a point-per-game. Whether this remains the culture on Long Island or not, the team could use a player who can add more offense than what is currently on the roster. Arvidsson scored 15 goals this season, but he is a two-time 30-goal scorer and five-time 20-goal scorer. In the right situation, he can get back there. There might have even been a chance for him to score five more goals this season if he played 15 more games.
