NHL Rumors: Brock Boeser Could Reunite With Former Teammate On One Team

Brock Boeser is expected to hit the open market on July 1, and speculation is growing that the New York Rangers could be in the mix for his services.

With former teammate J.T. Miller already in New York and the recent departure of longtime winger Chris Kreider, the fit is there on paper. Boeser, 28, could slot right into a top-six role and rekindle the chemistry that once powered Vancouver’s offense and power play.

But as Ben Kuzma of The Province notes, this potential reunion is all about dollars and sense.

Boeser and Miller Reunion in New York? It’s Complicated

Boeser is reportedly seeking a six-year deal worth around $8.5 million annually, pricey for a Rangers team with just under $14 million in cap space, especially after re-signing Matt Rempe and facing upcoming deals for RFAs Will Cuylle and K’Andre Miller.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers are unlikely to entertain offer sheets and may be focused instead on internal business unless another salary-shedding move follows the Kreider trade.

Rangers’ Cap Crunch May Derail Boeser Possibility

Re-signing Cuylle and Miller alone could eat up over $10 million in cap room, leaving minimal space for a big-ticket UFA like Boeser. And with Artemi Panarin, Alexis Lafrenière, and Kaapo Kakko already in the mix on the wings, adding another top-six right winger might require the Rangers to move another contract off the books. Mitch Marner’s projected $13M cap hit makes him an unrealistic target, and while Boeser is more affordable than Marner, he’s still a luxury unless further roster shuffling occurs.

That said, Boeser is a proven 30-goal scorer with improved defensive awareness and strong net-front presence, especially valuable in playoff scenarios.

His past chemistry with Miller isn’t lost on Rangers insiders, and with New York eager to stay in Cup contention under new coach Mike Sullivan, a familiar face like Boeser could make a difference.
