The pact comes with a $7.5 million AAV, and takes him to age 36.

Nelson was obviously thrilled with his move to Denver, as he said in a statement today after the signing.
“My family and I are excited to be staying in Colorado. Having spent my entire career with one organization, we weren’t totally sure what to expect when we arrived in Denver. But getting the opportunity to play for the Avalanche, to compete with a great group of teammates in that locker room, and in front of the tremendous fans at Ball Arena, we knew this was where we wanted to stay.”
Nelson still performing at high level, re-signs with Avalanche
Nelson had spent the first 11-and-a-half years of his career with the Islanders, and had nine 20+ goal seasons for them. He hasn't slowed down much as he heads into the final few years of his career, as he recorded three straight 30+ goal seasons going into 2024-25.
In 920 career NHL games, he has 301 goals and 587 points, while playing 17 minutes per night.
His signing thins out the potential centers available, as well as potent offensive contributors on the upcoming free agent market.
