Canucks Rumors: Trade Chatter Picking Up Around Thatcher Demko & Elias Pettersson

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko and forward Elias Pettersson celebrate a win during 2025 game.

The Vancouver Canucks are entering a very critical stretch as trade rumors heat up around two core players: Thatcher Demko and Elias Pettersson

With Demko entering the final year of his deal and Pettersson's no-trade clause set to kick in on July 1, GM Patrik Allvin and President Jim Rutherford are under pressure to determine the future of both stars.

According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, both names rank among the NHL’s top 20 offseason trade targets, and insiders confirm Vancouver is “listening” on Demko amid internal hesitation to offer a long-term extension.

Thatcher Demko Drawing Eastern Interest

Demko, 29, has recovered from past injuries and is enjoying his first healthy offseason in years. But with Kevin Lankinen signed long-term and Arturs Silovs emerging in the AHL, the Canucks may be preparing to move on.

The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reports that Demko is open to a change of scenery, with Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Montreal named as suitors. His lack of no-trade protection and manageable $5M cap hit make him a realistic trade chip. But the club must decide quickly, as Demko becomes eligible for an extension on July 1.

Pettersson Omission Sparks Speculation

Meanwhile, Pettersson's future in Vancouver grows murkier. Despite a down season and internal frustration, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports the Canucks "know what the offers are" but would prefer to fix the issue rather than trade him.

Still, his absence from the Canucks’ 2025–26 season ticket campaign poster — along with Demko and free agent Brock Boeser — added fuel to the speculation. If the Canucks don’t deal Pettersson by July 1, his full no-trade clause will severely limit options moving forward.
