Predators Rumors: Notable Update On Jonathan Marchessault Trade Talks

Nashville Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault shoots the puck during 2025 game.

Less than a year after signing Jonathan Marchessault to a five-year, $27.5 million deal, the Nashville Predators are reportedly open to trading the veteran winger—and he’s open to leaving

But between his age, contract, and drop in production, Marchessault’s value has cratered. According to The Tennessean's Alex Daugherty and Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Nashville could struggle to get more than a late-round pick or fringe prospect in return, and may even need to retain salary or add a draft sweetener to make a deal happen.

Age, Contract, and Performance All Working Against Nashville

Marchessault’s deal includes a no-movement clause and allows him to submit a 15-team no-trade list, limiting potential destinations. After posting 42 goals with Vegas in 2023-24, he scored just 21 last season with Nashville’s flatlining offense.

His shooting percentage dropped significantly, and tensions grew as he publicly questioned head coach Andrew Brunette’s system. Nashville finished 30-44-8 and was one of the league’s lowest-scoring teams, casting doubt on the direction of the franchise’s veteran-heavy roster.

Montreal, Vancouver, and Vegas Among the Only Fits

There is some interest—Seravalli reports that Marchessault would welcome a trade to Montreal, his home province of Quebec, though the Canadiens are wary of his age and term. A Vegas reunion remains a longshot due to their cap constraints, while the Vancouver Canucks could be intrigued if Nashville eats part of the deal.

But none of those teams are likely to give up significant assets. Nashville’s only real leverage is Marchessault’s playoff pedigree, but in today’s cap world, that’s not enough without flexibility.
