Bruins Make It Three Signings The Day Before Free Agency Opens
The Boston Bruins are very busy this morning as they announce a trio of signings. First reported was Michael DiPietro, but Henri Jokiharju and John Beecher are now also extended.
DiPietro was inked to a two-year, $812,500 AAV contract, while Jokiharju was signed for three years at $3 million AAV and Beecher was signed for just one year at $900,000 AAV.

Jokiharju and Beecher are definite NHL players who each played at least 60 games this season. Jokiharju was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline and played the final 18 games for the Bruins, recording four assists and playing five more minutes per game with Boston than he had for the Sabres in 2024-25. He will challenge Andrew Peeke for second pairing playing time next season, but I don’t expect Jokiharju to get 21:22 of ice time per game again unless there’s an injury.
Beecher finished 15th on the Bruins in scoring this season and averaged just above 11 minutes per game. Without any more additions, which likely won’t happen, the 24-year-old would be set for a larger role with the team next season. He had three goals and 11 points in 78 games in his second season in the NHL, but his ice time improved by 40 seconds per game. His shooting percentage was low and should bounce back next season.
Beecher will likely play a third/fourth line role for the Bruins again and the expectation is that he takes another step forward as he gets even more acclimated to the NHL. He was also in a penalty killing role as he logged over 118 minutes while blocking 71 shots and delivering 85 hits.
The Bruins might not have thought that they could swing anyone better in free agency than Jokiharju, who is a solid defenseman, but Beecher and DiPietro are low-risk, potentially rewarding signings for next season.
