Connor McDavid Leaves Ice Early At Oilers Practice; Knoblauch Comments

At Edmonton Oilers' practice on Sunday, Connor McDavid left the ice early after speaking with trainers.

Connor McDavid was at his full McJesus best on Thursday as the Edmonton Oilers finished off the Dallas Stars in five games to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. But Sunday morning at practice, it was a bit of a different scene, as McDavid left the ice early after speaking with trainers.

McDavid spent only about 10 minutes on the ice, per Jason Gregor, before leaving the practice. The rest of his teammates continued to work on the ice for another half hour.

For now, there's no word on what exactly is going on with the superstar, but, as Gregor notes, this is "something to monitor for sure."

The captain began practice working on his line with Corey Perry and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Why did Connor McDavid leave practice early?

After practice, coach Kris Knoblauch tried to calm any concerns ahead of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday.

“No issues. He will be ready for Game 1,” said the coach, while not revealing any further details.

McDavid leads the playoffs in scoring for the second straight year and third time in four seasons, this time with 26 points in 16 games thus far. His electrifying goal in the Oilers' clincher over Dallas on Thursday left the impression that he will not be stopped this season in his quest for the Cup.

McDavid has averaged 1.75 points per game over the last four Stanley Cup Playoffs, tops in the NHL.

In addition, Connor Brown skated at practice on Sunday, and the team says he will be ready to go in Game 1, after missing the last two games of the Dallas series.
