Dallas Stars Re-Sign Mavrik Bourque to Extension

One potential offer sheet candidate has been taken off the board, as the Dallas Stars have signed young forward Mavrik Bourque to a one-year extension, at a team-friendly $950,000.

As a rookie, Bourque, 23, showed himself ready to take on a solid bottom-six role as a two-way player in the NHL. The Stars have extremely limited cap space (now just $2.7 million), so getting this done at that price was a huge get for the team.

Mavrik Bourque re-signs with Stars after solid rookie season

The former first-round pick of the Stars (2020 Draft, 30th overall), Bourque earned a full-time role with Dallas this season, playing 73 games and contributing 11 goals and 25 points in just 12:41 average ice time per night, with a plus/minus rating of +6.

"Mavrik is a dynamic and highly skilled player whose vision and hockey IQ stand out every time he's on the ice," said Stars GM Jim Nill in a statement announcing the signing. "His ability to create plays and elevate the game is something we value deeply in such a young player. We are excited to have him back and confident he'll continue to make a significant impact for our team."

He improved greatly in his two full seasons with the Stars' AHL affiliate, contributing 26 goals and 77 points in 71 games in the 2023-24 season, winning that league's MVP. He made the leap to the NHL in a sheltered role with the Stars this season, but showed he belongs.

He was only dressed for three of their 18 playoff games, but he'll be counted on more next season.
