Devils Rumors: Cody Glass' Time In New Jersey Coming To An End
The New Jersey Devils continue to make changes to their roster as Erik Haula was the latest to leave town. The veteran was unexpectedly traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Jeremy Hanzel and a 2025 fourth-round pick. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it does clear $3.15 million in cap space for the Devils to utilize and the 34-year-old only recorded 11 goals and 21 points in 69 games last season.
There have been talks about many changes coming to the Devils, most of them at forward, after poor depth later in the season and in the playoffs. The next forward that appears to be coming off the roster is Cody Glass.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Devils are not expected to qualify Glass, making him a UFA in a short time. The 25-year-old had two goals and seven points in 14 games for the Devils this season after being acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He finished with six goals and 22 points in 65 games as a whole, his second best season in his NHL career.
Glass started off hot for the Devils and looked like he was a steal of an acquisition that could make up for some of the offense lost with the Jack Hughes injury. Glass had two goals, six points, and was a +6 in the first seven games while playing quite a bit. His ice time then dropped fairly significantly and he finished the last seven games of the regular season with one assist and a -2.
Glass had no points and was a -2 in five playoff games while playing very inconsistent minutes. While it started well, he didn't show enough for his entire time with the Devils this season to prove that he is part of the solution. This opens up another spot at forward for New Jersey to have to replace. With over $14 million in projected cap space and only Luke Hughes to take up any significant money internally, there is definitely room to add better forward depth.
