NHL News: Jonathan Toews To Sign With Winnipeg Jets

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Jonathan Toews has an agreement in place to join the Winnipeg Jets once free agency begins on July 1.

LeBrun also added that Toews' contract with the Jets will be a one-year deal.

Toews had been heavily connected to the Jets before this news, so it is not particularly surprising that he is reportedly heading to the Central Division club. The Winnipeg native will now have the opportunity to play for his hometown club and look to help the Jets win the Stanley Cup.

Toews has not played since the 2022-23 season with the Chicago Blackhawks due to Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and long COVID symptoms. During his final season as a Blackhawk, the 37-year-old center recorded 15 goals, 16 assists, and 31 points in 53 games.

With this move, the Jets are bringing in a veteran center with plenty of playoff success and experience to their roster. Toews should help improve their center depth and will also give them more leadership, as he, of course, was captain of the Blackhawks for several years.

In 1,067 career NHL games over 15 seasons, Toews has recorded 372 goals, 511 assists, 883 points, and a plus-148 rating. It will be interesting to see how he builds upon these career stats as a member of the Jets from here.
