NHL Trade Rumor: Montreal Canadiens Listening to Brendan Gallagher Trade Offers

The Montreal Canadiens have had themselves a very busy offseason to this point, and all signs are pointing to GM Kent Hughes not slowing down anytime soon. While adding Noah Dobson shores up their top pair for the foreseeable future, it turns out Hughes could be looking to move out some veteran Canadiens, who have been with the team for awhile.

This includes Brendan Gallagher, as reports have surfaced the pesky wingers' name is on the trade market. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Canadiens have Gallagher's name out there in trade talks, and are listening to see what type of offers come their way.

The Habs are loaded with young talent on the blueline and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude they are likely, eventually, going to move at least one of them. But word across the league, in speaking with other teams, is that Montreal has made veteran winger Brendan Gallagher available. It is unclear, at this point, if a move involving Gallagher is close, but sources from multiple teams have told me his name is out there.

Gallagher, 33, has two years remaining on his contract and comes with a $6.5 million cap hit. He also owns a six team no-trade list. I also wonder about Mike Matheson’s future in Montreal. He’s entering the final year of his contract.

Gallagher, 33, scored 21 goals and 38 points in 82 games last season. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to keep up the production during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, chipping in with just two assists in five postseason games.

The shifty winger has $6.5 million AAV for two years left on his contract, and entering the summer, holds a full no-movement clause. The Alberta native could be an option for the Winnipeg Jets or Vancouver Canucks this summer to help replace Nik Ehlers or Brock Boeser, and could be open to moving on from Montreal, and heading west.
