Oilers Reportedly Working On Multi-Year Contract Extension With Connor Brown

Connor Brown, Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are going to be making some changes at forward this offseason, but some of the pieces they have should stay put as well. There have already been reports that Trent Frederic could get a long-term deal at a reduced AAV to stay in Edmonton for a number of years, but now there are also reports that pending UFA Connor Brown and the Oilers are in discussions on a four-year contract extension in around the $1.9-$2.3 million AAV range.

Brown appears to want some term on his deal, so the Oilers will be able to keep the AAV down a bit and keep a great penalty killer, teammate, hard worker, and well liked player around for multiple years.

Brown has played two full seasons with the Oilers after signing following missing 78 games with the Washington Capitals in 2022-23. He is more than back up to speed and is a solid bottom-6 fixture in the Oilers' lineup.

The 31-year-old had a real bounce-back year with the Oilers this season putting up 13 goals and 30 points following four goals and 12 points in the first season with the team. But one thing Brown has done is turn it up in the playoffs. He scored five goals and nine points in 20 games this postseason and had two goals and six points in 19 games in 2024.

Brown's ice time popped up a bit and that was because of his game being elevated. He averaged 14 minutes per game, had a 129 minutes on the penalty kill, and recorded a goal and an assist shorthanded this season. This would be a good deal for the Oilers as their penalty kill wasn't good in the playoffs and Brown is a player that can help turn it around. As a team that is about to be paying Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard quite a bit, having players on lower AAV deals will benefit them.
