2 Teams Interested In Flames' Andersson On His No-Trade List
The Rasmus Andersson sweepstakes gets a little more interesting as it was revealed on The Fourth Period that some interested teams are on the defender's no-trade list and thus, will likely not be able to land him unless he decides to waive for one of the teams.
Andersson has a six-team no-trade list, so with all of the teams to choose from, the Ottawa Senators and LA Kings are on there. If he chose them with 25 other teams that could be in that place instead, there is probably a good reason. It might have more to do with the place than the actual teams as both the Senators and Kings made the playoffs last season, so Andersson would be on a competitive team if he altered his no-trade list.
Now the two teams that appear to be front-runners for Andersson are the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights. Both would likely have to send a player back or would just have to move a defender out. For Dallas, that's Matt Dumba or Ilya Lyubushkin. For Vegas, that's Zach Whitecould or Jeremy Lauzon.
An Andersson trade will likely include a signing, so that's why the Calgary Flames are being pickier and patient with where they send him. A sign-and-trade would fetch them a lot more in return that includes higher picks and/or prospects as well. Zayne Perekh and Hunter Brzustewicz are the future on the right side and the Flames aren't yet ready to compete for a Stanley Cup. It makes sense to move Andersson now and start to give the younger players some more playing time as they both had a taste. And what the Flames will get back will also be good for the future. Expect an Andersson trade at some point this summer, but not necessarily to two teams in need in Ottawa and LA.
