Blues Make Move With Leddy In Near Final Attempt At Parting Ways
Nick Leddy’s game fell off last season with the St. Louis Blues and after the addition of Logan Mailloux and the attempt to get younger, he is on his way out.
The Blues have reportedly been trying to trade him throughout this offseason, but nothing has taken thus far. He has one year left on his deal at $4 million AAV, so it is definitely rich for many team’s likings.
Leddy logged 21:07 and 22:22 of ice time per game in his two full seasons with the Blues. He dropped to just 18:40 last season and only got into 31 games due to injury. The veteran finished with 28 points, 127 blocked shots, and 50 hits in 2023-24, but only recorded five points, 26 blocked shots, and five hits last season. It was almost as if he was more cautious on the ice so as to not get injured again.
Leddy once had a role in the top-4, but the additions of Philip Broberg and Cam Fowler changed the complexion of the defense in St. Louis, making it much better. The Blues should be happy with a third pairing of Mailloux and Tyler Tucker if Leddy is gone. Matthew Kessel or even a free agent addition still changes things up for the better as well.
Since attempts to trade Leddy haven't worked out, he was placed on waivers so maybe the team has some luck. A team like the San Jose Sharks are looking to add more money to get to the cap floor, even if it takes up a spot on the roster. Leddy is 34 years old and I can’t see a top-4 role for him anymore. His career might be winding down. If nobody claims him on waivers, I think a buyout happens as it is the last option.
