Bruins Will Have To Consider Trading Pavel Zacha
The Boston Bruins have more work to do at forward, but one name that has been out there all summer is Pavel Zacha. He is one of the team's better players, on a good deal that has two years left at $4.75 million AAV, and can play center or the wing.
Frank Seravalli said that he thinks if the right deal were to present itself, the Bruins would have to consider it. This is an interesting situation to me. Maybe if Zacha was heading into the final year of his deal, potential trade talks should be higher, but he is under contract for two more years and we don't yet know how the Bruins are going to bounce back from last season. It doesn't look great at forward, but a healthy defense and goaltending could help carry the team.
Zacha finished last season with 14 goals and 47 points while averaging over 19 minutes per game. He had a big impact and should once again do the same. While the center position is one of weakness for the Bruins, Casey Mittelstadt could also play center.
What deal that could present itself to the Bruins remains a mystery, but seeing where the team is at and how they have to revamp the lineup, not rebuild, a forward on the younger side could be what intrigues Boston to move on from Zacha ahead of time.
The Bruins will have to hope that some of the prospects start to make impacts in the lineup as soon as next season and that James Hagens is everything he is expected to be. Zacha shouldn't be cheap for a team to acquire considering what he brings to the table and where his cap hit sits. I think a contender is more likely to land him and something might happen closer to the trade deadline depending on where the Bruins sit, but insiders have predicted some trades are bound to start picking up in August, so the Bruins might be active.
