Canucks Potentially Dropping The Ball On Top Free Agent Available
The Vancouver Canucks' offseason has been subpar and while there are still potentially some options out there for them, they may be dropping the ball on the top remaining free agent available, Jack Roslovic.
"I'm not even 100% sure that the Canucks have put a solid offer in front of him yet," said Cam Robinson. The Canucks have the cap space after trading Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs a while ago, so there's enough space for one more addition before the season starts so they don't fall behind.
With the potential of injuries and the lack of overall offense that is expected to come out of the forward group, Roslovic won't be a major game-changer, but he will absolutely help. The 28-year-old had 22 goals and 39 points last season for the Carolina Hurricanes while playing under 14 minutes per game.
Roslovic was strong in the faceoffs last season, so that would give the Canucks another option down the middle who can hold his own in the middle-6. The Canucks' forward group is far from set when it comes to who will be playing where. He made $2.8 million last season and $4 million AAV the couple seasons before. Vancouver can find a way to fit him in, but maybe Roslovic is looking for a bit of a longer deal for some security as he has only signed short-term ones.
The Canucks need to get back to the playoffs, and it's tough to see this team finishing in the top-3 in their division without a lot going right in every regard. The team is on a clock to vastly improve and convince Quinn Hughes to stick around and sign again. Roslovic would help, but that seems like just a start over the next two years.
