NHL News: Stars Sign Colin Blackwell To Multi-Year Deal
The Dallas Stars are bringing back one of their depth players in Colin Blackwell for two more years as Elliotte Friedman reported. Blackwell’s cap hit will be $775,000 AAV.
Blackwell had six goals and 17 points in 63 games during the regular season while averaging 11:34 of ice time per game. The 32-year-old is one of the team’s main penalty killers and should remain that way due to the success.
This isn’t a big signing considering what the Stars have done this offseason, but that cap hit allows the team to still have around $200,000 in cap space. The problem is that there are only 11 forwards, so Alex Petrovic will likely have to spend time in the minors in place of a 12th forward for the roster throughout the season.
This could mean that Dallas could still make a trade, but also confirms that players like Mikael Granlund, Evgenii Dadonov, and Cody Ceci are definitely not returning. Blackwell only had one goal in 11 playoff games, but it does open up a little opportunity for a young forward or two to step in and step up.
