NHL News: Winnipeg Jets Sign Gustav Nyquist

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Winnipeg Jets have signed Gustav Nyquist to a one-year, $3.25 million contract.

Nyquist was one of the most notable free-agent wingers still on the market. Now, he is joining the Jets, where he will look to have a much-needed bounce-back season in 2025-26.

Nyquist had a tough 2024-25 season split between the Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild. In 79 games on the campaign, he recorded 11 goals, 17 assists, 28 points, and a minus-24 rating. This was after he scored 23 goals and set new career highs with 52 assists and 75 points in 81 games with the Predators during the 2023-24 season.

When looking at the Jets' roster, Nyquist should have himself a home in their middle six. Furthermore, given his offensive skill, he also should receive some reps on their power play next season.

Overall, this is very much a low-risk move for the Jets. They signed Nyquist for only one season and at an affordable price. If he bounces back, this contract could end up being a good value signing for the Jets, but time will tell what happens on that front.

In 863 career NHL games over 13 seasons split between the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Predators, and Wild, Nyquist has recorded 209 goals, 322 assists, 531 points, and a minus-30 rating.
