NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Flames' Rasmus Andersson
The Calgary Flames have yet to sign defenceman Rasmus Andersson to a long-term contract extension. Andersson was eligible to sign an extension July 1st, and all signs are pointing to him being traded in the coming weeks by GM Craig Conroy.
Andersson is under contract for the 2025-26 season at $4.55 million AAV, and does own a six-team no-trade clause, so he does have some say in the matter. With his versatility to jump into the rush, run a power-play, and block a ton of shots, Andersson is going to fetch a hefty return in any deal.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta sees a deal coming at some point from Calgary:
It does not sound like Andersson and the Flames will be coming to terms on a contract extension. He has one year remaining on his current deal, and trade talks have picked up. There is solid interest in Andersson and Flames GM Craig Conroy is trying to maximize a return, be it this off-season or leading up to the trade deadline.
As far as potential trade destinations go, the Dallas Stars continue to be heavily linked to a deal. The same can be said about the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes. The Stars moved Matthew Dumba to the Penguins and have a spot on the right-side of their blueline to fill.
The Senators are heavy on the left side of their defence core, and need someone to build around on the right side to help balance things out. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes continue to search for game-breakers and have Brent Burns to replace, who signed a one-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche.
At this point, it feels more like 'when' and not 'if' Andersson is dealt to one of these three teams.
