Edmonton Oilers Eyeing 3 PTOs, Per Report

Max Pacioretty is among the rumored options for the Oilers to receive a PTO

It's just about getting to that time of year. As teams look to get their training camp rosters in order, looking for some depth at some spots, and to fill in some gaps here and there, professional tryout offers (PTOs) will be handed out to some unsigned UFAs who haven't found work as of yet.

The Edmonton Oilers, according to a report from the 2 Mutts podcast, are looking at three PTO options:

Joshua Marshall and Phil Stockley often have their fingers on the pulse of what's happening in Oil Country, and they're suggested that Edmonton is eyeing two forwards and one goalie to bring in to camp on PTOs.

Although they don't name names, per NHL Trade Talk, the players that are being rumored from the forward side of things include Max Pacioretty and Klim Kostin.

Both make sense, as they fit with the Oilers' stated priorities this summer to add some size and physicality to their forward group.

Klim Kostin makes sense as a PTO target for Oilers

Kostin, a 26-year-old bruiser, at 6'4", 232 lbs, is familiar to Oilers fans, playing 57 games with them back in 2022-23, and faring pretty well, with 11 goals in 57 games in a depth role, while handing out 157 hits in just over 10 minutes ice time per night, and collecting 66 penalty minutes. He spent last year in a depth role with the San Jose Sharks.

Oilers reportedly have Pacioretty on their radar

Pacioretty, the 6'2", 217-pound veteran winger, delivered an astonishing amount of punishment this past season in his 37 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with 105 hits, many of them absolutely crushing.

On the goalie side, two names that have been floated as potential PTOs for the Oilers include Ilya Samsonov and Alexandar Georgiev. The former spent last season as a backup with the Vegas Golden Knights, posting an .891 save percentage in 29 games, while the latter split his season between Colorado and San Jose, and had an equally inept .875 Sv% in both places.

With the Minnesota Wild making Jack Johnson the first PTO signing of the summer earlier this week, we can expect to see more in the coming days and weeks.
