Former Edmonton Oilers Goalie Signs In KHL

Oliver Rodrigue, Edmonton Oilers

Former Edmonton Oilers goalie Olivier Rodrigue is taking his talents overseas, as he has signed a one-year deal with Barys Astana of the KHL.

Rodrigue, 25, became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1 after the Oilers decided not to send him a qualifying offer. Now, after spending over a month on the free-agent market, Rodrigue is heading to the KHL after signing this deal with Barys Astana

Rodrigue appeared in his first two career NHL games this past season with the Oilers, where he recorded a 0-1-0 record, a 3.10 goals-against average, and a .862 save percentage. This included one start against the Anaheim Ducks on April 7, where he stopped 18 out of 21 shots in a loss.

Rodrigue spent the bulk of the 2024-25 season at the American Hockey League (AHL) level, where he posted an 18-16-7 record, a 3.12 goals-against average, a .897 save percentage, and one shutout. In 131 career AHL games over five seasons with the Condors, he recorded a 61-52-15 record, a .905 save percentage, a 2.92 goals-against average, and two shutouts.

Rodrigue was selected by the Oilers in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft with the 62nd overall pick. Now, after spending several years in the Oilers' system, he will be moving on and continuing his career overseas in the KHL. If he performs well with the club, perhaps it could open the door for him to get another chance back in North America in the future.
