Maple Leafs Rumors: What Toronto Could Get For Calle Jarnkrok Or David Kampf

The Toronto Maple Leafs are exploring ways to clear salary and open roster spots, with Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf at the center of trade talks.

Both forwards have been on the market for weeks, and NHL insiders believe general manager Brad Treliving is open to moving one or both to create flexibility for another move before the 2025–26 season.

Jarnkrok’s Expiring Deal Could Draw Interest
Jarnkrok, 33, is entering the final year of his $2.1 million contract and offers lineup versatility, the ability to slide up to a second-line role, and past success with a 20-goal season in 2023–24. While he’s coming off an injury-shortened 19-game campaign, his low cap hit and expiring deal could make him appealing to contenders looking for affordable depth.

In a larger deal, such as a rumored package for Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, Jarnkrok could help balance salaries while giving the acquiring team a rental forward who can be flipped again at the deadline.

Kampf’s Defensive Role Appeals to Specific Fits
Kampf, 30, has two years left at a $2.4 million cap hit and is brings penalty killing and defensive-zone reliability. His offense is limited (just 13 points in 59 games last season), but teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Chicago Blackhawks have been linked as possible destinations.

In Pittsburgh, he could be part of a bigger trade package for a top-six winger like Bryan Rust or Rickard Rakell. With Columbus or Chicago, Kampf’s inclusion might be more of a cap dump, requiring Toronto to attach a mid-round pick or mid-level prospect.

If Toronto can move either player, they would add crucial cap space to pursue upgrades, whether that’s a scoring forward like Jack Roslovic or bolstering the blue line. For now, Jarnkrok’s expiring deal likely holds more standalone trade value, while Kampf’s move may need to be part of a larger trade package.
