Maple Leafs Remain Linked To Top UFA Despite Full Roster

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some solid moves this offseason. They've rebounded very quickly from losing Mitch Marner to building a more well rounded group, but there is going to be plenty of internal competition for spots in the lineup and on the roster.

When discussing the next step for the Maple Leafs, Frank Seravalli said, "I'm going to say, rounding out the roster. They've got a whole bunch of players it feels like. They've got 26 guys on one-way contracts this year. That may actually be the number." The NHL roster can only consist of 23 players, so there will be guys headed through waivers before the season starts. With some more money to spend, that doesn't mean there can't even be one more. Toronto remains in win-now mode and adding the top remaining UFA makes more sense than not.

Seravalli added that the Maple Leafs remain in conversation and are a possible landing spot for Jack Roslovic still. He thinks that general manager Brad Treliving is always looking and trying to make the team better. He has done a good job since taking over the GM job in Toronto and it seems like the team can actually accomplish something with a more spread out group.

Roslovic is a solid third line player with second line potential, and that's where he would also fit in great with the Maple Leafs. Assuming he would play regularly on the third line, that line would consist of Nic Roy, Bobby McMann, and Roslovic. That's a very capable line and can do a lot. Max Domi is projected to play on the wing of the second line, but that could change with McMann moving up and Roslovic sliding in there if he's signed.

The Maple Leafs have a sliver under $2 million in cap space, but also have a full projected roster. There could still be a trade or two coming to free up cap space and a spot, but Toronto seems like one of the most logical destinations for Roslovic to sign this offseason.
